- Day 24 Hostages Update: IDF Rescues Hostage in Gaza
Baruch Hashem! Earlier today, the IDF reported that as part of a ground operation in Gaza, they successfully rescued one of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas: Pvt. Ori Megidish. She is in good condition and has been reunited with her family. AJC continues to call for the immediate release of the remaining 238 hostages.
- Jews Violently Targeted Around the World
The intensifying war between Israel and Hamas has unleashed a torrent of hate toward Jews across the globe. In Russia this weekend, we witnessed a would-be pogrom as a vicious mob took control of an airport where a plane from Israel had landed, hunting down Jews to attack. Also in Russia, crazed rioters stormed a hotel, checking every room for Jews, and torched a Jewish center being built. In Pakistan, an elected official tweeted implying the Holocaust was justified alongside a photo of Hitler. And, in London and other world capitals, tens of thousands of protesters marched through the streets shouting antisemitic threats and glorifying Hamas terrorists.
- Jewish Students Fear for Their Safety on College Campuses
Last night, at Cornell University, Hillel was forced to tell Jewish students to avoid their kosher dining hall after violent threats were made against Jews in an online chat room, including one where the poster said they were going to shoot up the dining hall. AJC has called out many universities for their woefully inadequate responses following the October 7 massacre. We are working with school administrators, providing guidance and resources to help them respond to the situation and keep Jewish students safe.
- War Update: Heartbreaking Death Toll Grows, Jerusalem Targeted by Rocket Fire, IDF Takes Out Terrorists in Gaza
Hamas terror spares no one. Over the weekend, nine-year-old Israeli Tamar Haya Torphiashvili died a week after suffering cardiac arrest when she was running for shelter with her family during a rocket siren in Ashdod. After 22-year-old German-Israeli Shani Louk was kidnapped by Hamas terrorists from a music festival on October 7, her lifeless body was seen in videos being paraded through the streets of Gaza. Her family held out hope, but over the weekend she was confirmed dead. Our prayers are with the loved ones and families of Tamar and Shani. May their memories be a blessing. Rocket alerts sounded in Jerusalem and surrounding areas earlier today. So far, there are no reports of any injuries or casualties from those attacks, thanks to the Iron Dome. The IDF reported today that its ground operation in the Gaza Strip is progressing, several terror cells have been thwarted, and multiple Hamas commanders have been taken out.
