Nissim Benjamin Reuben is the Assistant Director of AJC’s Asia Pacific Institute (API) based in Washington, DC. Nissim who has roots in India’s small but vibrant Jewish community, works with the AJC-API team in advocating strong economic, strategic and people to people ties between the US, Israel, Asia and between the Jewish and Asian American diaspora communities in the United States.a member of India’s small but vibrant Jewish community, is the Assistant Director of AJC's Asia Pacific Institute (API) and works on building relationships between the U.S., Israel, and Asian countries and between the Jewish and Asian American diaspora communities in the United States.
Besides being API’s liaison to the National Security Council, State Department, Department of Defense, Asian Embassies and major Think Tanks in Washington, DC, Nissim is AJC’s in-house India expert, with vast experience working with Indian diplomats, policy experts, congressional staffers and leaders from the Indian-American community. He has helped organize and conduct Hanukkah in Indian-Jewish tradition at the Indian Embassy and Consulates across the US since 2002 as well as programs across major campuses in the US bringing Jewish & Indian-American students together to highlight the close ties between their communities & between the US, India and Israel. These programs are cohosted by AJC Regional Offices. During the historic visits of PM Narendra Modi to Israel in July, 2017 & PM Benjamin Netanyahu to India in January, 2018, Nissim helped organize Think Tank Forums on US-India-Israel relations in Tel Aviv and New Delhi respectively. He also helped organize a meeting of leaders from AJC, Israeli Think Tanks and Indiaspora with PM Narendra Modi in Jerusalem. During PM Modi’s first visit to the US after taking over as Prime Minister, Nissim helped organize the meeting of AJC & Jewish Organization Leaders with Prime Minister Modi & then Foreign Minister Mrs. Sushma Swaraj at the sidelines of UNGA, 2014.
In India, Nissim worked as Principal Commercial Officer of the British and Israeli diplomatic missions. He holds an M.A. in International Affairs from the School of International Service, American University, Washington, DC and a B.A/M.A. in Economics from St. Xavier’s College, Gujarat University, Ahmedabad, India. Nissim has also spent an academic year at the Overseas Students Program of Tel Aviv University.
